Investigation of the Relationship Between Eco Anxiety and Psychological Well-Being and Emotion Regulation Skills in Health Professionals: Descriptive Study

Yalçın, Suna Uysal; Terzi, Rabia; Akkoç, Mehtap

Objective: This study was conducted to examine the relationship between eco anxiety and psychological well-being and emotion regulation skills in health professionals. Material and Methods: The data of the study, which was conducted in a descriptive-relational research design, were collected with an electronic questionnaire (Google Forms) in July-August 2023. The data were collected using a demographic data form created by reviewing the literature (open- and closed-ended questions) and questions related to climate and environment, Eco-Anxiety Scale (EAS), Psychological Well-Being (PWB) and Emotion Regulation Skills Scale (ERRS). Results: It was determined that 87.7% of the participants were female, 49.8% lived in metropolitan areas, 57.6% were nurses, and 94.4% did not receive climate change or environmental education. It was found that as the averages of “fear of other pandemics such as the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic” and “fear of natural disasters such as earthquakes” increased, eco anxiety increased, and as the averages of “sensitivity to environmental issues” and “warning the environment about environmental pollution” increased, psychological well-being and emotion regulation skills increased. It was determined that the EAS-total scores of those living in the provincial centre and district were significantly higher than those living in the metropolitan area. When the relationship between EAS and PWB and ERRS was analysed, as the total scores of PWB and ERRS increased, the total scores of EAS decreased (p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, we can say that eco anxiety has an effect on psychological wellbeing and emotion regulation. It is recommended to provide climate change trainings to health professionals and to take part in social responsibility projects to raise awareness and sensitivity on environmental issues.

Background: Violence against women is a global public health and human rights issue with profound physical and psychological consequences. Simulation-based learning may help nursing students recognize signs of violence. This study examined whether physical violence indicators created on a standardized patient using moulage improve nursing students’ recognition of violence and their related attitudes, knowledge, satisfaction, self-efficacy, and communication skills. Methods: A randomized controlled pretest–posttest design was conducted with 55 fourth-year nursing students allocated to a moulage group (n = 28) and a control group (n = 27). The data collection tools included the “Demographic Information Form”, “ISKEBE Attitude Scale for Violence Against Women,” “Communication Skills Assessment Form”, “Nurses’ and Midwives’ Recognition of Signs of Violence Against Women Form”, “Modified Simulation Effectiveness Tool”, “Student Satisfaction and Self-Efficacy Scale in Learning,” and “Moulage Evaluation Questionnaire.” Data analysis involved calculating frequency, mean, standard deviation, chi-square tests, the Mann-Whitney U test, and the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Results: The demographic data of the moulage and control groups were similar. Recognition of violence indicators was significantly higher in the moulage group (19.75 ± 2.78) than in the control group (16.38 ± 3.63; p < 0.05). The communication skills of the students in the moulage group had an average score of 5.35 ± 0.48 for the effective communication subscale, while the average score for the therapeutic communication subscale was 4.55 ± 2.91. Additionally, the moulage group reported greater satisfaction with current learning (51.85 ± 6.66) and higher self-efficacy (29.21 ± 4.26, p = 0.006) than the control group. The mean Modified simulation effectiveness tool score was 68.42 ± 20.87, indicating a positive perception of learning effectiveness. No significant between-group difference was found for attitudes (ISKEBE). Conclusion: Moulage-supported simulation enhanced recognition of physical violence indicators, satisfaction, self-efficacy, and communication-related outcomes. The integration of these methods is recommended in future educational programs. Clinical registration: The study is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov. ID: NCT06982017 (date: 2024-05-20).

Healing After Violence: The Effect of Perception of Social Support on Posttraumatic Growth in Female University Students

Bozkurt, Ramazan; Terzioğlu, Füsun; Uysal Yalçın, Suna; Zonp, Zeynep; Akkoç, Mehtap; Sinko, Laura; Saint Arnault, Denise M.

This study investigated the Turkish validity and reliability of the Healing After Gender-based Violence Scale (GBV-Heal) and the relationship between social support perception, posttraumatic growth in university students who are victims of gender-based violence. The study sample consisted of 167 female students who experienced gender-based violence. The Turkish version of GBV-Heal of Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value was 0.892; the Bartlett Sphericity Test result was determined as χ2 = 195,053, and the obtained variables were found suitable for factor analysis. Perception of social support related to post-violence healing in female university students is effective on posttraumatic growth.
