Bektas, Murat; Özdemir, Tuğba; Karadağ, Gülendam
Purpose: The relationship between siblings, which is a lifelong bond, affects both the individual with special needs and their healthy sibling in many ways. This study was conducted to do the Turkish validity and reliability study of the Siblings’ Experience Quality Scale (SEQS). Material and Methods: The study was carried out with individuals who were aged over 18 and had a sibling enrolled in the Guidance and Research Center of a province. Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Pearson correlation analysis, content validity index, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, McDonald’s omega test, confirmatory factor analysis, and t-test were used in data analysis. Results: The healthy siblings of 171 students with special needs voluntarily participated in the study. The scale explained 54.8% of the total variance. The omega reliability coefficient value for the overall scale was determined as 0.81. As a result of CFA, the fit indices were found as X2=247.893, df=128, X2/df=1.93, RMSEA=0.074, GFI=0.86, IFI=0.85, NFI=0.73, TLI=0.81, CFI=0.84, and AGFI=0.819. Conclusion: The SEQS was proven to be a valid and reliable measurement tool in the Turkish population

Objective: This study was conducted to perform the Turkish validity and reliability study of the siblings’ experience quality scale (SEQS) for healthy siblings who were aged between 12 and 18 and had a sibling with special needs. Materials and Methods: Our study was carried out with healthy siblings of students enrolled in two special education and application schools in a province in the west of Türkiye. Validity and reliability stages were carried out, and experts were consulted. Shapiro-Wilk normality test, content validity index, Pearson correlation analysis, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis, McDonald’s omega test, and t-test were employed in the analysis. Results: Of the participants, 59% were female, 58% had high school education, and 63% had siblings with intellectual disabilities. The mean age of the participants was 14.87±2.06. The scale explained 58.8% of the total variance. It was found that the omega reliability coefficient for the overall scale was 0.85 and that the fit indices obtained as a result of CFA were X2=262.28, df=128, X2/df=2.04, RMSEA=0.073, GFI=0.88, IFI=0.89, NFI=0.80, TLI=0.86, CFI=0.88, RFI=0.76, and AGFI=0.843. The Turkish version of the SEQS was proven to be reliable and valid for the 12-18 age group. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the SEQS was proven to be reliable and valid for the 12-18 age group.

Özdemir, Tuğba; Karadağ, Gülendam
This study examined the effects of technology-assisted yoga on care burden, quality of life, and psychological well-being among caregivers of individuals with special needs. This study is designed pretest-posttest, follow-up, and control group randomized controlled trial. Data were collected from a sample of 60 caregivers of individuals with special needs. Data collection involved the use of a Socio-demographic Data Collection Form, the Caregiver Burden Scale, the Multidimensional Index of Life Quality, and the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale. Measurements were taken before the yoga intervention, as well as at the 3rd and 6th months during the intervention. Statistical analyses included the student’s t test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi-square test, repeated measures ANOVA, and Fisher LSD. SPSS 24.0 and STATISTICA software packages were utilized for data analysis. The effect size and post hoc power were assessed using G Power 3.1.9.6. Initial caregiver scores were found to be moderate. Significant differences were observed among the groups, over time, and in group*time comparisons for various sub-dimensions of the care burden scale, life quality scale, and mental well-being scale. The study yielded large effect sizes and a post hoc power of over.94 for all scales in the posttest and follow-up analyses. The findings indicate that a 6-month yoga program for caregivers of individuals with special needs reduced care burden and enhanced quality of life and psychological well-being. Trial Registration: This study is registered at https://clinicaltrials.gov/ (registration number: NCT05218291).
