- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2024Commercialization of quinone-based drugs
Altuner, Elif Esra; Sen, Fatih; Dar, Umar Ali
In this chapter, the antibiotic drug effects of quinone and quinone derivatives are discussed in detail. Today, antibiotic drugs used against harmful pathogens work for a certain period, but these drugs become useless after a certain time or after a certain dose. This is because harmful microorganisms become resistant to these antibiotics after a certain threshold. For this reason, searches have been made that can replace antibiotics and are harmless. Quinone and quinone derivatives are one of these researches. Quinone and its derivatives show antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties against various microorganisms. Quinones have the structure of cyclic diketones. Therefore, it is an advantage that it gives radicals easily as it resonates easily and thus has antioxidant properties in this reaction. The main quinone-based drugs used as antibiotic drugs are as follows: anthracyclines, mitomycin C, mitoxantrone, aziridinylbenzoquinones, streptonigrin, lapachols, and actinomycin D. Some of these drugs have anticancer and some have antitumor properties. This chapter can offer details on quinone and quinone derivatives-related commercial drug research.
