The Editors-in-Chief have retracted this article because of errors and inconsistencies which raise concerns regarding the validity of the research reported in this work. A review conducted by the journal found that: The turnover frequency reported in the section entitled Catalytic Studies of Hydrogen Production was incorrectly calculated; There is no conclusive evidence that bimetallic Nickel-Cobalt nanoparticles associated with carbon nanotubes were synthesized, as the reported XRD pattern and TEM micrographs don’t support this result. Furthermore, the description of the synthesis procedure was considered to be lacking in substance; The differences between the average sizes of nanoparticles is not adequately explained. The authors were asked to comment on these concerns, but their explanation was deemed unsatisfactory. The Editors-in-Chief no longer have confidence in the research presented in this article. The authors disagree with this retraction.

The use of catalysts is one of the most important parameters in producing hydrogen energy. Zinc-oxide/cobalt nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical methods and doped on f-MWCNT (ZnO/Co@f-MWCNT NPs) as a supporting material. Various characterization techniques were used to examine the structural and morphological properties of the synthesized nanoparticles (ZnO/Co@f-MWCNT NPs). According to the XRD characterization results, the average crystal particle size of NPs was calculated as 2.10 nm, and according to TEM analysis, the average particle size was calculated to be 2.24 ± 0.5 nm. The catalytic activity of ZnO/Co@f-MWCNT NPs toward hydrogen production was determined using NaBH4 as the hydrogen source. Studies were carried out on how the catalytic activity of ZnO/Co@f-MWCNT NPs would vary in different parameters. The average reusability performance achieved after 4 cycles for hydrogen production is 89%. Turnover frequency (TOF) according to catalytic activity, activation energy (Ea), enthalpy (∆H), and entropy (∆S) were found to be 2467.4 min−1, 16.36 kj/mol, 13.79 kj/mol and -122.8 J/mol.K, respectively. This study provides guidance for hydrogen production, and other energy studies, and supporting agents in the future.

Activated carbon based Cobalt nanoparticles (Co@AC NPs), considered in the context of hydrogen energy, which is a renewable and sustainable energy, were synthesized by the hydrothermal method, and their catalytic activities were tested. For this, hydrogen production tests were carried out with the help of sodium borohydride (NaBH4) methanolysis of Co@AC NPs synthesized by the thermal method. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), Fourier transmission spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization tests were performed. According to the TEM characterization result, it has been observed that the NPs have a spherical shape and an average size of 2.52 ± 0.92 nm. Then, using the catalytic studies, it was observed that hydrogen production’s reusability is found to be 86%. The activation energy (Ea), enthalpy (∆H), and entropy (∆S) values were found to be 20.28 kJ⋅mol−1, 17.74 kJ⋅mol−1, and −125.97 J⋅mol−1 K−1, respectively. The obtained values have yielded excellent results and guide future sustainable and renewable hydrogen energy studies by reducing costs, ensuring environmental sustainability by avoiding the formation of undesirable by-products, and producing hydrogen from NaBH4 through its high catalytic properties.

Editors-in-Chief have retracted this article due to a compromised initial peer review process. A subsequent post-publication review revealed the following concerns: Misuse of the Eyring equation and incorrect interpretation of UV-vis spectroscopy data; A 50% discrepancy between the particle size determined by XRD and TEM that is not addressed in the paper; Multiple issues with Table 1, e.g., the values in the table do not seem to pertain to the same reaction, making comparison confusing; the table also equates “performance” with “activation energy.” Dubious reliability of certain citations. The Editors-in-Chief have therefore lost confidence in the results reported by this article. Fatih Sen, Hassan Karimi-Maleh, Rima Nour Elhouda Tiri, Fulya Gulbagca and Elif Esra Altuner disagree with this retraction. None of the remaining authors have responded to the correspondence from the Publisher about this retraction.

In this study, nickel-cobalt@functionalized multi-walled carbon nanoparticles (NiCo@f-MWCNT NPs) were synthesized, analysed, and used for hydrogen generation via methanolysis on NaBH4. For the NPs synthesis, two steps were conducted (i.e., i: MWCNT was functionalized in an acid medium to support NPs (f-MWCNT); ii: NiCo NPs were synthesized and supplemented with f-MWCNT). Various characterization techniques were used to examine the morphological structure of NiCo@f-MWCNT NPs. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) results showed that the NPs were sized as 3.941 ± 1.094 nm with a spherical structure. The X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) results indicated an average crystalline size of 1.46 nm. The evaluation of the catalytic performance for hydrogen production revealed that the turnover frequency (TOF) was calculated to be 2934.4 min− 1 with activation energy (Ea) and enthalpy (∆H) of 39.29 kJ/mol and 36.74 kJ/mol, respectively, which indicates high viability for hydrogen transport and generation application and processes.
