The aim of this study is to examine the discoloration in CAD/CAM materials used in dentistry after 4-years of contact with water, which is the environment to which they are most exposed in the oral cavity. Three different A2-colored resin-based CAD/CAM blocks (Cerasmart, Coltene Brilliant Crios and Shofu Block HC) were used in our study. A total of 180 specimens, 60 of each CAD/CAM material, were prepared with a thickness of 2-mm. Then, each material was divided into three different groups based on the polishing systems (Coltene Diatech, Sof-Lex Diamond, Identoflex Diamond Ceramic) applied in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturing companies (n:20). The discoloration of the materials on a white background and under natural light sources at the beginning and after being stored in distilled water for 4-years were measured with the VITA EasyshadeV spectrophotometer. All the obtained data were examined using the Kolmogorov Smirnov and Shapiro Wilk Normality Test values. After the water aging process, no statistically significant difference was found between the Cerasmart (p=1.51; p>0.05) and Shofu (p=0.95; p>0.05) CAD/CAM material groups using three different polishing systems. A statistically significant difference was found between all polishing system groups of Coltene CAD/ CAM materials (p=0.00). All CAD/CAM materials showed color changes above the ΔE00≤0.8 perceptibility threshold after being aged in distilled water for 4 years. Cerasmart CAD/CAM blocks (Coltene ΔE00=1.33, Sof-lex ΔE00=1.43, Identoflex ΔE00=1.69) showed color changes below the ΔE00≤1.8 acceptability threshold in all groups where different polishing systems were applied, while Coltene (Coltene ΔE00=3.7, Sof-lex ΔE00=3.81, Identoflex ΔE00=4.69) and Shofu (Coltene ΔE00=2.33, Sof-lex ΔE00=1.74, Identoflex ΔE00=1.91) blocks showed color changes above the acceptable threshold value.

Purpose The objective of this study was to investigate the color changes of various computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials polished with different polishing systems and immersed in various colored drinks. Materials and Methods Three different resin-based CAD/CAM blocks (Cerasmart, Coltene Brilliant Crios, and SHOFU Block HC) were utilized. A total of 540 CAD/CAM blocks were prepared with a thickness of 2 mm and categorized into three main groups based on the polishing systems employed. The Sof-Lex, Identoflex, and Coltene Diatech polishing systems were administered to the materials. Subsequently, the specimens were further subdivided into three subgroups and immersed in three different colored solutions for one hour twice a day for 15 days. Filter coffee, cola, and distilled water served as the coloring agents. Color measurements were conducted at baseline and on Days 1, 7, and 15 using the VITA Easyshade compact spectrophotometer device. Results By the end of Day 15, Cerasmart specimens exhibited the least color change when immersed in coffee and distilled water, whereas Coltene specimens demonstrated the least color change when subjected to cola. Irrespective of the CAD/CAM blocks and polishing systems utilized, a statistically significant difference was observed among the beverages (p<0.001). Particularly, coffee induced a more pronounced color change compared to the other beverages (p<0.001). Conclusion The ΔE value increases proportionally with the duration of immersion in colored drinks. Specimens immersed in coffee displayed the highest color change for each CAD/CAM material.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of different decontamination agents on the bond strength of saliva-contaminated CAD/CAM blocks and repair composite materials. Two hunderd eighty 3-mm-thick specimens were prepared from four different CAD/CAM materials: Katana Zirconia UTML disc, IPS e.max CAD block, Shofu block, and Vita Enamic block. Each material was divided into seven different subgroups (N=70). Group 1 had a clean surface. The other groups were comprised of the samples, which were contaminated with human saliva: group 2: negative control (non-cleaned); group 3: cleaned with water spray; group 4: cleaned with 70% ethanol; group 5: cleaned with Ivoclean; group 6: cleaned with Katana Cleaner; and group 7: cleaned with phosphoric acid. After the decontamination protocols, the resin composite cylinders were bonded to the CAD/CAM surfaces with a thin layer of dual-cured resin cement. The samples were stored for 24 hours at 37°C in distilled water. Then, they were subjected to a shear bond strength test (SBS). The values were recorded, and fracture types were evaluated using a microscope. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post-hoc test. Generally, all decontaminating agents improved the SBS of composites to Katana Zirconia UTML, IPS e.max, and Vita Enamic materials (p<0.05). However, for Shofu materials, group 6 samples exhibited significantly higher bond strength values as compared with group 2 samples (p=0.026). The highest SBS values were seen in the phosphoric acid-treated group in Katana zirconia materials (26.45 ± 9.38 MPa), whereas the lowest values were seen in group 2 samples in Shofu materials (13.17 ± 3.40 MPa). Each decontaminant agent improved the bond strength of composites to the contaminated CAD/CAM materials. If saliva is not cleaned before adhesive procedure, SBS values may decrease. All decontamination agents can be used safely on zirconia, lithium-disilicate glass-ceramic, hybrid ceramic, and polymer-infiltrated ceramic surfaces.
