Chicken döner is a widely consumed ready-to-eat poultry product that may pose a significant public health risk when prepared under inadequate hygienic conditions. We conducted a retrospective observational study following a large foodborne outbreak linked to chicken döner consumption from a single restaurant in Kocaeli, Türkiye. Epidemiological and clinical data were obtained from hospital records and public health surveillance systems. A total of 1146 emergency department visits were recorded, and 925 unique patients were included after excluding repeat presentations. The median age was 21 years (interquartile range: 16–29), and 63.8% were male. The most common symptoms were nausea (74.5%), vomiting (70.2%), and diarrhea (69.2%). Hospitalization was required in 45 patients (3.9%), with no mortality observed. Hospitalized patients had significantly higher C-reactive protein levels compared with discharged patients (median 76.0 vs. 26.1 mg/L; p = 0.002). Stool cultures, performed in a subset of patients, identified pathogenic organisms in 37.8% of samples, predominantly Salmonella spp. Microbiological analysis of food samples demonstrated multimicrobial contamination, including Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, and coagulase-positive Staphylococcus. This outbreak represents one of the largest reported chicken döner–associated foodborne events worldwide and highlights the substantial health care burden posed by contaminated ready-to-eat poultry products. Although inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein were associated with hospitalization, their clinical utility should be interpreted cautiously and in conjunction with overall clinical assessment.

Background: Lipedema is a chronic, progressive adipose tissue disorder affecting mainly women, characterized by bilateral, disproportionate fat accumulation in the lower extremities. The condition is often associated with pain, heaviness, and functional limitations. While the adipose tissue changes in lipedema are well-described, its impact on muscle mass, strength, and functional performance remains underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of sarcopenia and its relationship with lipedema severity. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 48 women with clinically diagnosed lower-extremity lipedema. Diagnosis followed the International Lipoedema Association and German S2k guidelines. Sarcopenia was assessed using a multidimensional approach, including ultrasonographic rectus femoris thickness, handgrip strength, the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test, and four-m walking speed. The lipedema stage was determined using morphological criteria. Statistical analyses evaluated the relationships between sarcopenia, functional parameters, and lipedema stage. Results: Participants had a mean age of 47.2 ± 8.4 years and a BMI of 33.0 ± 4.3 kg/m2. Sarcopenia was identified in 33.3% of participants, with 14.6% classified as severe. Those with sarcopenia exhibited lower rectus femoris thickness and slower walking speed (p < .05). Advancing lipedema stage correlated with reduced muscle thickness, weaker handgrip strength, slower gait, and prolonged Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test duration (p < .05). Stage 3 patients demonstrated the highest prevalence of sarcopenia, indicating progressive impairment in muscle mass and functional performance with disease severity (p < .05). No significant associations were found between age or BMI and muscle parameters (p > .05). Conclusions: Sarcopenia is prevalent in women with lower-extremity lipedema and increases with disease stage. Comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment should be integrated into lipedema management to address functional impairment and optimize patient care.

This study evaluated the effect of calcium-rich nanohydroxyapatite (nano-HA) as an intracanal medicament on root fracture resistance compared with calcium hydroxide (CH). Forty-eight caries-free maxillary central incisors were instrumented and randomly assigned to a two-factor design (two medicaments × two sealers), yielding four experimental groups (n = 12/group): CH + resin-based sealer, CH + bioceramic-based sealer, nano-HA + resin-based sealer, and nano-HA + bioceramic-based sealer. The medicaments were applied and stored in simulated body fluid at 37 °C and 100% humidity for 10 days. After removal, the canals were obturated with heated gutta-percha using either a resin-based or a bioceramic-based sealer, and were then stored for an additional 28 days. Vertical fracture resistance was measured using an Instron Universal Testing Machine. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA (p < 0.05). The nano-HA groups showed a higher mean fracture resistance (924.04 N) than the CH groups (818.54 N). The highest fracture resistance was observed in the nano-HA + bioceramic-based sealer group (1020.38 N), whereas the lowest was observed in the CH + resin-based sealer group (665.83 N). The main effect of sealer type was statistically significant (p < 0.001), while no significant interaction between medicament and sealer type was detected. Within the limitations of this in vitro study using static vertical loading, sealer type had a large, statistically significant effect on fracture resistance, with the bioceramic-based sealer yielding higher values than the resin-based sealer. Although the nano-HA groups exhibited numerically higher fracture resistance than calcium hydroxide, the main effect of intracanal medicament did not reach statistical significance. These findings are limited to laboratory conditions and should not be directly extrapolated to long-term clinical performance. © The Author(s) 2026. Objective: Nasal septal perforation (NSP) is characterized by defects in the mucosal, cartilaginous, and bony structures of the septum, most commonly resulting from septoplasty. Spontaneous healing of NSPs is rare, necessitating surgical intervention once the condition stabilizes. Numerous techniques have been developed for NSP repair. This study presents a novel technique combining fascia lata grafts, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and diced septal cartilage harvested from the patient’s remaining deviated nasal septum for the repair of medium-sized NSPs. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 32 patients who underwent NSP repair between July 2022 and July 2023. The repair utilized fascia lata, PRP derived from venous blood, and diced cartilage from residual septal cartilage. The procedure involved an open rhinoplasty approach for graft placement, followed by stabilization using endoscopic techniques. Results: The mean horizontal and vertical diameters of the septal perforations were 12.06 ± 2.87 mm and 13.12 ± 2.44 mm, respectively. All patients had medium-sized perforations (0.5-2 cm). The mean follow-up period was 12.03 ± 1.11 months. Complete closure was achieved in 28 of 32 cases (87.5%). The cohort included 18 males (56.3%) and 14 females (43.8%), with a mean age of 35.47 ± 5.31 years (range: 25-45). Ten patients (31.3%) were smokers, among whom 4 experienced incomplete closure. Smoking was not significantly associated with repair failure (P = .06). Conclusion: This novel technique combining fascia lata, PRP, and diced septal cartilage offers a reliable and effective approach for the repair of medium-sized NSPs. © The Author(s) 2025. Objective: Nasal septal perforation (NSP) is a structural anomaly that affects the mucosa, cartilage, and bone of the nasal septum, often stemming from septoplasty as the primary cause. Spontaneous healing of a perforated septum is rare, and typically the healing process is observed until it is determined that the condition is stable and no longer deteriorating, at which point surgical intervention is considered. Numerous surgical techniques have been proposed for NSP repair. This study introduces a novel approach incorporating a fascia lata graft with fat tissue and diced septal cartilage to reconstruct medium-sized NSP. Methods: The researchers conducted a retrospective analysis involving 22 patients who underwent repair for NSP from January 2021 to January 2023. Grafts were obtained, and the perforation was addressed using an open rhinoplasty technique, followed by the insertion and suturing of the graft. Results: The mean size of the septal perforations was 12 mm horizontally and 13 mm vertically. All patients with NSPs were chosen as medium size (within 0.5-2 cm). The mean follow-up period was 12 months. Complete closure of NSP was achieved in 19 out of 22 patients (86.3%). Among the cases, 15 were male (68%), and the ages ranged from 25 to 45 years with a mean of 35. Eight cases (36%) were smokers. After 12 months postoperatively, closure was not achieved in 3 medium-sized NSPs due to smoking. The analysis revealed that the failure rate in the smoker group was statistically significant (P =.036). Conclusion: The TriCelluFuse technique, combining fascia lata, fat tissue, and diced septal cartilage, is a secure and reliable method for closing NSPs. It has a significant success rate and should be considered a viable option for individuals with NSPs.

Objective: Nasal osteotomy is a crucial step in rhinoplasty, explicitly addressing the open roof deformity in nasal bones. This study aimed to assess and compare the recovery patterns associated with 4 distinct osteotomy techniques in a rabbit model. Materials and Methods: Twenty white New Zealand rabbits weighing 2.5 to 3.0 kg were included in the study. Median osteotomies were performed on the left side using piezosurgery and on the right side using an oscillating micro-saw. Additionally, internal osteotomy was executed on the right side and external osteotomy on the left side, both performed with a chisel across all rabbits. Ten rabbits were sacrificed on the 7th day, while the remaining 10 were sacrificed on the 15th day for subsequent histological examination. The granulation tissue formation (GTF), vascularization, inflammation, collagen fibril content, osteotomy gap width, and new bone formation were evaluated in hematoxylin and eosin and Masson’s trichrome-stained sections. Results: On the 7th day, piezosurgery demonstrated statistically-significant advantages in terms of GTF, neovascularization, and collagen fibril quantity when compared to the oscillating micro-saw (P <.05). Furthermore, a statistically-significant difference was observed among the groups concerning the distribution of connective tissue organization between the 7th and 15th days (P <.05). Conclusions: This study’s findings unequivocally establish that bone healing after osteotomy with piezosurgery surpasses that achieved with an oscillating micro-saw in this rabbit model.
