This study investigates the synthesis, characterization, and application of barium titanate nanoparticles (BaTiO₃ NPs) as a fluorimetric sensing platform. Nanocrystalline BaTiO₃ particles, exhibiting quasi-spherical morphology with average diameters evolving from approximately 7 to 9 nm depending on reaction time, were successfully prepared via a room-temperature chemical synthesis route. Comprehensive characterization using techniques such as XRD, SAED, TEM, FTIR, and UV–Vis spectroscopy confirmed the formation of a polycrystalline perovskite structure and elucidated the material's morphological and optical properties. The synthesized BaTiO₃ NPs displayed stable, intrinsic fluorescence, optimally emitting at 467.42 nm upon excitation at ∼402.33 nm in a neutral pH environment (pH 7). This fluorescence was observed to be effectively quenched by multiple analytes, including glucose and paracetamol, establishing a basis for the development of a sensor. Quantitative analysis revealed analyte-dependent quenching efficiencies, with Stern-Volmer studies indicating glucose as the most potent quencher among those kinetically analyzed. The system demonstrated sensitive detection capabilities, achieving low parts-per-million (ppm) limits of detection (LOD) for both glucose (∼1.19 ppm) and paracetamol (∼1.04 ppm). Notably, the linear dynamic response range varied significantly, extending up to ∼1.8 ppm for glucose but reaching at least 3.6 ppm for paracetamol. The demonstrated fluorescence stability, coupled with sensitive and analyte-dependent quenching responses, highlights the potential of these BaTiO₃ nanoparticles as a versatile and robust material for developing future fluorimetric sensors.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Evaluating YouTube videos on oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer
Akçay, Hülya Çerçi; Kargu, Erdal Cem; Öçbe, Melisa
Background Oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) are abnormalities with an elevated risk of transforming into oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Despite the visibility of early lesions, OSCC is frequently diagnosed at advanced stages due to low public awareness. YouTube offers potential for oral health education, but the reliability of OPMD-related content remains uncertain. Methods This study systematically assessed the content, reliability, and educational value of 100 English-language YouTube videos on OPMDs and oral cancer. Two independent evaluators analyzed videos using a 6-domain content rubric, JAMA benchmarks, DISCERN, and the Global Quality Scale (GQS). Inter-observer agreement was calculated. Results Of the 100 videos screened, 36 met inclusion criteria. The mean view count was 6,741.9 ± 14,315.5, with limited engagement (interaction index = 1.9 ± 2.3). The highest content scores were observed for Definition and Classification (4.47 ± 0.63) and Diagnostic Approaches (4.07 ± 1.05), while Patient Education ranked lowest (2.57 ± 1.09). Overall video quality was moderate (GQS = 2.94 ± 0.75; DISCERN = 47.29 ± 15.55; JAMA = 2.16 ± 0.67; VIQI = 14.13 ± 2.13). Strong correlations existed among quality indices (ρ = 0.70–0.75, P < .001), but engagement did not correlate with quality. Conclusions OPMD-related YouTube content frequently lacks comprehensive patient education, and credible sources are not always the most viewed. Developing accurate, accessible, and engaging educational videos remains essential.

Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is an undesirable problem with many adverse effects on the patient. The first step toward effective treatment and prevention is to identify the patient's risk factors for PONV. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in the General Surgery Clinic between August 2017 and August 2018 to evaluate the effect of Apfel risk score and fasting duration on PONV and draw attention to this issue. Methods: A total of 283 patients who were scheduled for elective surgery were included in the study. The patients were evaluated using the Patient Evaluation Form created by the researcher by scanning the literature, and the Apfel Risk Scoring System. Results: The solid fasting time of the patients was 18.9 ± 28.9 h, the mean fluid fasting time was 13.9 ± 7.4 h, the mean operation time was 133 ± 76 min, the perceived hunger score was 3.1 ± 3.2, and the mean thirst score was 4.3 ± 3.2 and 16.8 ± 18.5. When the Apfel Risk Score and the incidence of all-time postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) were compared, a significant correlation was found between the patients' solid food fasting times and the incidences of the 2nd, 4th, 8th, and 24th hours. PONV incidence (p ˂ 0.01). Conclusion: The fasting times of the patients are longer than recommended. There is a parallel relationship between both long fasting times and the Apfel risk score and the incidence of PONV. It is recommended that institutions establish an evidence-based policy and take the necessary precautions in the preoperative evaluation of patients in terms of postoperative nausea and vomiting and during fasting periods.
