Tikvesli, Melek; Mayda, Pelin Yüksel; Kuloglu, Figen

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the preoperative fine-needle biopsy results and magnetic resonance imaging findings in parotid tumors with the final pathology results. Methods: The study included a total of 77 patients who underwent parotidectomy. The fine-needle biopsy procedure was performed under ultrasonography guidance in all the patients. The fine-needle aspiration cytology results of the patients were classified into benign, malignant, and undiagnosed groups. Facial magnetic resonance imaging was used to record the tumor side, localization, and size (longest axis), as well as the distance of the tumors from the skin. In addition, the final pathology volumes of the tumors were determined by calculating their dimensions on 3 axes. Results: The preoperative fine-needle biopsy results had 71.4% sensitivity and 96.4% specificity with reference to the final pathology results. There were no differences in terms of the size, side, localization, or skin distance of the masses according to the fine-needle aspiration cytology results (P > .05). However, the mass volume of the masses significantly differed according to the fine-needle aspiration cytology results (P < .05). The tumor volume measured on magnetic resonance imaging was significantly lower in the undiagnosed masses compared to the benign group. Conclusion: Our results showed that the mean volume of the undiagnosed tumors in fine-needle biopsy was lower. Considering the similar sensitivity and specificity of magnetic resonance imaging and fine-needle biopsy, a second fine-needle biopsy procedure may not be requested in the presence of small-volume masses, depending on the clinician’s preference.

BACKGROUND: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is inflammation of pancreas in which pancreas enzymatic activity is increased. Parasym-pathetic innervation of pancreas plays an important role in several functions of pancreas. Botulinum toxin (BTx) might be a tool to suppress the pancreas activity in AP. METHODS: In the preliminary experimental study, BTx (15U/kg) was administered directly and intraductal ways. After 10 days, blood amylase, lipase, trypsinogen, insulin, and glucagon levels were compared and no significant difference was seen between groups. Intraductal BTx administration is preferred for experimental AP model in rats; control, AP, intraductal BTx, and AP with Intraductal BTx (AP+BTx). AP was created by intraperitoneal injection of cerulean 20 µg/kg/injection (5 times). After 24 h, serum amylase, lipase, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-10 were measured and pancreas tissue was evaluated for inflammation and necrosis. RESULTS: Mean serum amylase, lipase IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α levels of the AP group were significantly higher compared to the other groups (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the amylase and lipase levels of control, BTx, and AP+BTx groups. Serum insulin and glucagon levels in AP group were significantly higher than control and BTx groups (p<0.05). However, there is no significant difference between the insulin and glucagon levels of AP and AP+BTx groups. in pathological evaluation. In AP+ BTx group, there is less amount of centrilobular necrosis and there is mild inflammation and hyperplasia of pancreatic duct epithelium. CONCLUSION: Administration of intraductal BTx suppressed the AP without making significant suppression in endogenous activity of pancreas.

Evrenol Öçal, Simge; Terzioğlu, Füsun
Aim: To identify the relationship between the characteristics of hospitals in recruiting and retaining nurses (magnet properties) and nurses' professional values. Background: In Turkey, there are a limited number of hospitals with the characteristics to enable nurses to stay in their institutions. The magnet properties of these hospitals and the professional values of the nurses working in these hospitals are not known. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional research included 612 nurses working in six hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International. Data were collected using the Nursing Professional Values Scale-Revised (NPVS-R) and the Essentials of Magnetism Scale (EOM II). Results: The mean NPVS-R score was high 102.0 (26–130). However, the mean EOM II score was found to be low at 2.2 (1.0–3.4). As the magnet properties of the hospitals increased, the professional values of the nurses decreased. Conclusion: There was a negative correlation between the magnet properties of hospitals and the professional values of the nurses. Implications for Nursing Management: The findings of this study highlight the necessity of creating a working environment with high magnet characteristics, which also includes the professional values of nurses. Nurse managers should investigate the reasons behind the low magnet properties of hospitals, raise awareness, and plan interventions to increase magnet properties of hospitals. Creating a supportive working environment, promotion of the salaries and work environment and decreasing workload are some of the important intervention areas in attracting and keeping nurses in the institution.

Deniz, Cengiz; Gökmen, Gürsel
Covid-19 manual specimen collection process is too critical for health care workers due to they are able to getting infection from Covid-19-patient during the medical interaction. The purpose of this study, a novel robotic application is developed to achieve automatic specimen collection process for new corona virus (COVID-19). This application is a protection tool for health care workers for the Covid-19 pandemic. This robotic application easily and safely complete the sampling process task and assist to health care workers to prevent infection. The application is basically consist of a collaborative robot (COBOT), base plate, fixtures and a gripper. There are co-operation activities between the COBOT and health care worker to complete all tasks. The robotic application has been tested in the plant health care center as a prototype. The cycle-time (192 sec) for the robotic process needs to be improved. The Manual process is still %60 faster than robotic application. The biggest challenge in this application is patient's mouth and nose physical size changes. Robot movements for the specimen collection in nose and mouth are arranged just based on the fixed point. This needs to be improved according to size changes. Covid-19 specimen collection process with a robotic application has been presented which don't need any health care worker interaction with patient. This application needs to be improved related with above challenges to make a shelf product. It will create valuable impact and save lives in this pandemic.

Infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) are leading causes of human death. Antibiotics are effective molecules to combat bacterial infections by affecting the processes required for bacterial cell growth and proliferation. The development of new antibiotics has become an important issue as overdosed or incorrect use of antibiotic lead to the development of antibiotic resistance. In this study, a new series of 4-(1,2,3-triazoyl)arylmethanone derivatives has been synthesized using the one-pot Copper-Catalyzed Oxidative Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling/Oxidative Cycloaddition strategy to overcome the aforementioned problems. New compounds were characterized by using spectroscopic techniques (1H, 13C-APT-NMR, FT-IR, and HRMS-TOF). In vitro antimycobacterial activities of the arylmethanone derivatives against the Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv standard strain were examined using the resazurin microplate method in the presence of streptomycin and rifampycin as standard medicines. Bioactive assays demonstrated promising results that some of the synthesized 4-(1,2,3-triazoyl)arylmethanone derivatives exhibited good anti-TB activities. Notably, compounds 6b, 6f, and 6g gave the most potent efficiency with minimum inhibitory concentration values of 4 μg/ml (12.8, 11.7, and 12.8 μΜ, respectively). Among the synthesized compounds, the cytotoxicity measurements of the 6b, 6f, 6g, 6d, and 6v derivatives were screened and it was found that the 6f derivative did not show any cytotoxicity. Molecular docking analyses are utilized to identify the binding mode and the key interactions between target compounds and the ligand-binding site of M. tuberculosis enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase enzyme (MtInhA, EC 1.3.1.9). The docking results were in agreement with the in vitro results, which confirm the synthesized ligands bind to MtInha with moderate to low affinity.

Duman, Busra Oncel; Sariboyaci, Ayla Eker; Karaoz, Erdal
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that emerges with the destruction of beta cells of pancreatic Langerhans islets. Three different therapeutical approaches have been developed so far; pancreas transplantation, islet transplantation, and cell-based therapies. Bioengineering cell sheets for tissue generating is one of the latest approaches that have been used to construct cell-sheets instead of single cells so that it mimics the in vivo environments more. In this study, extra-hepatic functional islet tissue was constructed by transferring the 3-D beta cells and GFP labelled MSCs MSC sheets to the subcutaneous site of rats with STZ-induced diabetes. rBM-MSCs and beta cells were cultured on the 6-well PIPAAm culture dishes. Obtained rBM-MSCs as two-cell sheets and beta cells cultured in droplets with matrigel has transplanted into the dorsal subcutaneous area of diabetic rats. Fasting blood glucose levels and body weights were evaluated for 30 days after transplantation. Immunocytochemistry analysis for the anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and angiogenetic effects of MSCs on the 30th day of subcutaneous cell transplantation. All recipient rats transplanted with beta-cells with MSCs returned toward normoglycemia by day 5 and remained at this level for 30 days. Immunocytochemical analyses supported that the MSCs and beta cells preserved their viability and function. MSCs secrete cytokines and growth factors TGF-β and IL-6; MSCs of the important features of the anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory properties, thanks to apoptosis of beta cells preserve graft explained by inhibition. In transplantation of MSCs induced angiogenesis and neovascularization, PECAM-1 and GFP positive simultaneously determining endothelial cells was observed indicating. Subcutaneous 3D beta-cell transplantation would be possible with the MSC-sheets as a feeder layer of beta cells. The beta-cell line is glucose-sensitive and has a high insulin release potential, and can be used as an alternative to islets in in vivo transplant studies.

Helvacioglu-Yigit, Dilek; Seki, Umut; Kursun-Cakmak, Sebnem; Demirturk Kocasarac, Husniye; Singh, Maharaj
The aim of this study was to evaluate whether cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images in the presence of four different post materials, obtained from different kVps with varying resolutions and varying metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithms, differed in artifact estimation, and to compare tooth regions in terms of artifact value. Materials and Methods: Forty premolar teeth were used in this study. Root canals were treated, and teeth were randomly distributed into four subgroups (n = 10) for the preparation of post materials: titanium, gold (Nordin), quartz fiber (Bisco DT Light), and glass fiber (Rely X). The CBCT images were taken with two different kVps, three different metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithm options, and two different resolutions. For each protocol, the effective dose was calculated according to the dose area production (DAP) value. The standard analysis of variance technique and the Tukey multiple comparison adjustment method were used to assess interactions among material types, kVp, MAR, and voxel settings. Results: More artifacts were found in the middle third than in the cervical third (p < 0.05). The mean value of artifacts was highest for gold (Nordin), 90 kVp, no MAR, and 100 voxel size. Glass or quartz fiber posts at low resolution, with high MAR and 96 kVp, originated fewer artifacts. Moreover, the use of 90 and 96 kVp with 200 voxel size and high MAR provided the least amount of radiation. Conclusion: The best setting for radiographic follow-up of post materials on the Planmeca ProMax is 96 kVp with low resolution and high MAR; this setting produced one of the lowest effective doses. Clinical Significance: This study estimated the best scanning protocol by lowering the effective dose to a minimum level according to the “as low as reasonably achievable” principle, as well as assessing the tooth region and the post material generating the fewest artifacts, in order to prevent image interpretation challenges such as false-positive and false-negative results stemming from the deterioration of the visibility of the root canal due to perforation, fractures, and voids in the root canal region.
