The effects of cognition, quality of life, and fatigue on olfactory function in patients with multiple sclerosis

Acikgoz, Mustafa; Piri Cinar, Bilge; Aciman Demirel, Esra; Celebi, Ulufer; Cekic, Sibel; Elicora, Sultan; Atasoy, Hüseyin Tugrul

Aim: The frequency of olfactory dysfunction in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has revealed very different results in studies. Some studies have shown that olfactory dysfunction may be associated with cognitive impairment and poor quality of life. In these studies, different odor tests and cognitive tests were used and different results were obtained. Materials and methods: Forty literate patients over the age of 18 and 24 healthy volunteers of similar age and education were included in the study. Sniffin' Sticks Odor Test, California Verbal Learning Test II, Symbol Digit Modalities Test, Revised Brief Visuospatial Memory Test, Trail-Making Test, Quality of Life Short Form-36, Fatigue Impact Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and Beck Anxiety Inventory were applied to the individuals. Results: Olfactory dysfunction was detected in 50 % of the patients. High disability rate, low cognitive functions, low quality of life, and fatigue were identified as the factors affecting olfactory function negatively. Odor discrimination and identification abilities were associated with disability level and cognitive functions, whereas quality of life was linked to odor threshold scores. The olfactory function and cognitive abilities of patients with progressive MS (n = 5) were worse than those of patients with relapsing remitting MS (n = 35). Conclusion: Olfactory dysfunction is common in patients with MS and is associated with disability and quality of life. Olfactory function can be used in the follow-up of patients and olfactory dysfunction deserves further study as a metric that might emerge as a biomarker.

Prevention of microbial colonization of feeding tubes in the intensive care unit

Ozen, Nurten; Sis Celik, Aslı; Terzioglu, Fusun; Ozen, Volkan; Ozmen, Ozgur; Kose, Sema; Tosun, Betul; Dogan, Nazim; Ardic, Busra; Atabeyoglu Cimen, Bahar

Background: Various microorganisms which increase the mortality rate in the intensive care unit (ICU) cause microbial colonization of the nasogastric tube (NGT) and use the NGT as a reservoir. Aim: To detect the colonization on the NGT and to determine the effect that training regarding hand hygiene, NGT management, and enteral feeding (EF) provided to ICU nurses and auxiliary service staff (ASS) has on the level of NGT colonization. Study Design: A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test control design was used in this study. Microbial samples were taken from the outer and inner parts of NGT. The microorganisms were categorized as: group 1, no risk; group 2, low risk pathogenic; group 3, high-risk pathogenic group. The training was given to nurses (n = 15) and ASS (n = 7). Hand hygiene, NGT, and EF care training are provided to nurses and ASS by researchers. A total of three training sessions were scheduled to be held in 3 weeks so that all health care staff members were trained. Each session lasted 2 h in total. Patients were assigned to a group if one of the microorganisms presented on the outer surface of the patient's feeding tube and/or on the hub. The hand hygiene compliance was evaluated by direct observation according to the World Health Organization hand hygiene indications. Results: The study was conducted with 46 patients. Evaluating the patients for the presence of microorganisms before education revealed that 4.3% were in group 1, 21.8% were in group 2, and 73.9% were in group 3. After the education, evaluating the samples for the presence of microorganisms revealed that 39.1% were in group 1, 13% were in group 2, and 47.8% were in group 3. A statistically significant difference was found between the number of samples included in the groups after the participants had received training (H = 8.186; p =.017). Conclusions: An NGT could act as a reservoir of microbial colonization and high-risk microorganisms could be on the tube. Providing training not only to nurses but also to ASS will help reduce the risk of colonization. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Eliminating such colonization with effective hand hygiene during NGT feeding is a cost-effective method. Providing training not only to nurses but also to ASS will help obtain the optimum benefit from patient care.

Assessment the impact of operator experience on cyclic fatigue resistance in reciprocating and rotary NiTi files: a comparative study between dental students and pediatric dentistry specialists

Özyürek, Hande; Elbay, Mesut; Özyürek, Taha

Introduction: Devices reducing clinical practice time, and which get minimally affected by user experience are invaluable in pediatric dentistry. Additionally, knowing the fracture resistance of different nickel-titanium (NiTi) files for root canal preparation of primary teeth is important for treatment success. Thus, the present study aimed to compare the instrumentation time (IT) and fracture resistance of reciprocating T-endo MUST (TEM) and continuously rotating AF Baby File (ABF) NiTi files according to the use of pediatric dentistry specialists. Methods: According to their clinical experience level, 3 experimental groups (EG)s were formed namely: no experience, 2-years (less-experienced), and 10-years experienced pediatric dentistry specialists' groups. The fourth group was the control group (CG). In each EGs, 10 TEM (25/.06) and 10 ABF 20/.04, and 10 ABF 25/.04 NiTi file systems were used in 20 artificial resin teeth. Instrumentation time was recorded for each tooth. In the CG, the same number of files were not used for instrumentation. The files in all groups were subjected to a dynamic cyclic fatigue test, and the data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test at 5% significance level. Results: In all groups, TEM files showed a significant higher fatigue resistance as compared to ABF files. However, fatigue resistances were significantly lower in (EG)s both in TEM and ABF compared to (CG)s. The instrumentation time was found to be significantly lower in TEM compared to the ABF. Also, for both file systems, the experience level did not affect the fatigue resistance, and instrumentation time. Discussion: The experience level of the pediatric dentist did not affect the cyclic fatigue resistance of the reciprocating and rotating NiTi files, but the instrumentation time was lower for the reciprocating NiTi files.

Retrospective Evaluation of a Novel Nasal Tip Suture Technique

Altun, Huseyin; Hanci, Deniz; Kumas, Ömer; Jafarov, Shamkal

Nasal tip surgery is a crucial aspect of rhinoplasty in which suture techniques play a significant role. Early suturing techniques focused primarily on repositioning alar cartilage remnants after they had undergone significant resection. The size, contour, and orientation of the medial and lateral crura are primary factors in creating a tip shape. In this review, we retrospectively evaluated obliquely oriented dome sutures with triangular dome resection that was performed in 540 rhinoplasty cases at Yunus Emre Hospital between 2015 and 2020. Dome-defining sutures were placed, and a triangular cartilage resection was performed. Subsequently, oblique sutures were placed to achieve the desired lateral cartilage position. Objective assessment of postoperative results (Objective Rhinoplasty Outcome Score), patient satisfaction assessments, and nasal examinations were conducted. The objective assessments of the esthetic results showed a significant improvement, with a mean score of 3.6, which represents a good to excellent outcome. Most patients were subjectively satisfied with the surgical outcomes of rhinoplasty. No serious complications, such as infection, recurrence of deviation, nasal obstruction, or esthetic problems such as dorsal irregularities, were observed after surgery. Overall, suturing techniques play an important role in determining the nasal tip shape. Our technique is beneficial for maintaining a favorable lateral crural position, leading to improved patient satisfaction.

    Demirel, Funda; Türkay, Ünal

Aim: This study aimed to determine the differences in hemogram parameters, especially in inflammatory markers and perinatal and neonatal outcomes of pregnant women with thyroid disease, and to examine the effects of these differences on pregnancy outcomes. Material and Methods: The data of 80 pregnant women diagnosed with thyroid disease according to the American Thyroid Association (ATA) criteria at the first admission between 2016 and 2019 and 100 pregnant women whose thyroid hormone levels were within the normal reference range were retrospectively analyzed. Obstetric outcomes such as type and time of delivery, and the presence of additional disease during pregnancy, and neonatal outcomes such as weight, gender, and Apgar score at birth were compared. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), white blood cell (WBC) count, and hemoglobin (Hb) and mean platelet volume (MPV) values, which are accepted as inflammation markers, were also compared between groups. Results: There was no significant difference between hypothyroid and hyperthyroid pregnant women in terms of Hb (p=0.319) and PLR (p=0.341) values. Third-trimester WBC (p=0.015) values were higher and MPV (p=0.007) values were lower in the hypothyroid pregnant women compared to the control group. The highest NLR (p=0.005) value was observed in the hypothyroid group. Comorbidities were found to be 27.4% (n=20) in the hypothyroid group, 14.3% (n=1) in the hyperthyroid group, and 1.0% (n=1) in the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Pregnant women with thyroid disease may have differences in hemogram parameters, especially in inflammatory markers, and these differences may affect pregnancy outcomes.

Does corneal epithelial thickness show the severity of psoriasis? SD-OCT study

Güneş, İrfan Botan; Aksoy, Berna; Öztürk, Hakan; Yavrum, Fuat; Özen, Bediz

Background: Previous studies have generally focused on dry eye test abnormalities and ocular involvements such as uveitis, and blepharitis in psoriasis. Psoriasis area severity ındex (PASI), which is used to assess psoriasis severity, is a time-consuming and complex tool. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between disease severity and central corneal epithelial thickness (CCET) in psoriasis. Methods: 175 eyes of 175 psoriasis patients and 57 eyes of 57 healthy individuals as a control group was included in this study. Psoriasis patients were divided into three subgroups according to PASI score as < 10 mild, 10‒20 moderate and > 20 severe. CCET was measured by spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), and mean values were recorded. Mean CCET values were compared between the psoriasis groups and the control group. Additionally, the relationship between PASI score and CCET was examined. Results: The mean CCET value was 58.06 ± 3.1 μm in the mild group, 60.10 ± 5.0 μm in the moderate group, 65.75 ± 6.3 μm in the severe group and 56.16 ± 3.1 μm in the control group. It was determined that the mean CCET value was significantly higher in all psoriasis groups compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The mean CCET value was significantly higher in the moderate psoriasis group than in the mild psoriasis group (p = 0.018), and in the severe psoriasis group compared to the moderate psoriasis group (p < 0.001). There was a strong positive correlation between PASI score and CCET (p < 0.001, r = 0.519). Study limitations: Cross-sectional design and a relatively small number of participants. Conclusions: There is a strong positive correlation between psoriasis severity and CCET. Contactless measurement of CCET by SD-OCT can be an indicator of psoriasis severity.

Yener, Mehmet Deniz; Colak, Tuncay; Ozbek, Sema Kurnaz; Ceylan, Sureyya; Acar, Esra; Kir, Hale Maral

Objective: Unpredictable stress is a common factor that we encounter in our daily lives. In this context, we wanted to investigate the morphological effects of a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model on rat hippocampus and serum levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). Materials and Methods: This study was carried out on 16 Wistar albino rats which were divided into control and experiment groups. The CUMS model protocol was applied, and the morphological structures of the hippocampus were examined. The serum GFAP/BDNF levels were measured by ELISA method. Results: The mean BDNF level was 1.65 ± 0.17 ng/mL in the control group and 2.25 ± 0.29 ng/mL in the CUMS group. The mean GFAP level was 3.04 ± 0.45 ng/mL in the control group and 2.96 ± 0.58 ng/mL in the CUMS group. When the polymorph cell layer (PCL) in gyrus dentatus was examined; the mean number of cells in the control group was 20 ± 1.38 for the left PCL and 17 ± 1.35 for the right PCL. In the stress group; the mean number of cells in the polymorph cell layer of gyrus dentatus was 27 ± 2.08 cells for the left side and 23 ± 2.01 for the right side. Conclusions: As a result, morphological changes were observed in the gyrus dentatus region which has an important role in memory formation. The cells in the polymorph cell layer of gyrus dentatus underwent changes under stress.

Three-Dimensional Printing of Repaglinide Tablets: Effect of Perforations on Hypromellose-Based Drug Release

    Wadi, Ahmed; Rauf, Muhammed Abdur

Purpose: Drug release from hypromellose-based tablets involves the formation of characteristic dry cores surrounded by outer gel layers in aqueous media. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of perforation sizes on the dissolution of repaglinide from three-dimensionally (3D) printed tablets with two viscosity grades of hypromellose as rate-controlling polymer. Methods: Printing pastes of appropriate consistency were developed and fed into a bioplotter cartridge to extrude strands/filaments. Tablets were printed in a crisscross pattern with 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6 mm of inter-strand distances. Printed tablets were characterized and repaglinide dissolution data were evaluated mathematically. Results: Scanning electron microscopy images confirmed the sealing of the defect-free strands. Differential scanning calorimetry studies indicated potential interaction of ingredients above 150 °C which suggested that the formulation, printing, and drying of tablets should be performed at room temperature. All of the tablets possessed acceptable size, shape, and mechanical strength. Repaglinide dissolution data were evaluated by similarity factor (f2), dissolution efficiency, and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) which revealed that drug release rate and extent could be gradually increased by increasing the perforation sizes inside the tablets. Korsmeyer-Peppas modeling of dissolution data showed that the drug release rate approached zero-order kinetics and the release mechanism was Super Case II. This mechanism implies that an outer layer of HPMC gel limits the swelling of the characteristic HPMC tablet cores. Conclusion: The cores in HPMC tablets usually remain dry for long time in aqueous media. Higher perforation sizes enhanced repaglinide dissolution rate from such tablets. This led us to conclude that different perforation sizes in the tablets must have caused differences in the structural consistency of the core. Perforation sizes played the dominant role over HPMC viscosity grades in determining repaglinide release.

Evaluation of effectiveness of osteopathic visceral manipulation in patients with chronic mechanical low back pain: A multi-center, single-blind, randomized-controlled study

Altınbilek, Turgay; Murat, Sadiye; Yıldırım, Eren; Filiz, Behçet; Ünlü, Sebahat; Terzi, Rabia

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of osteopathic visceral manipulation (OVM) combined with physical therapy in pain, depression, and functional impairment in patients with chronic mechanical low back pain (LBP). Patients and methods: A total of 118 patients with chronic mechanical LBP were assessed, and 86 who met the inclusion criteria were included in the randomized-controlled study between January 2021 and August 2022. The patients were randomized to either Group 1 (n=43), which underwent physical therapy (5 days/week, for a total of 15 sessions) combined with OVM (2 days/week with three-day intervals), or Group 2 (n=43), which underwent physical therapy (5 days/week, for a total of 15 sessions) combined with sham OVM (2 days/week with three-day intervals). Both groups were assessed before and after treatment and at the fourth week post-treatment. Results: Seven patients were lost to follow-up, and the study was completed with 79 patients (25 males, 54 females; mean age: 46.87±14.12 years; range, 19 to 75 years). Pain, depression, and functional impairment scores were all improved in both groups (p=0.001 for all). This improvement was sustained at week four after the end of treatment. However, improvement in the pain, depression, and functional impairment scores was significantly higher in Group 1 than in Group 2 (p=0.001 for all). Conclusion: The results suggest that OVM combined with physical therapy is useful to improve pain, depression, and functional impairment in patients with chronic mechanical low back pain. We believe that OVM techniques should be combined with other physical therapy modalities in this patient population.

Predictive value of P wave parameters, indices, and a novel electrocardiographic marker for silent cerebral infarction and future cerebrovascular events

Cagdas, Metin; Celik, Aziz Inan; Bezgin, Tahir; Baytugan, Nart Zafer; Dagli, Muharrem; Zengin, Ahmet; Ozmen, Caglar; Karakoyun, Suleyman

Background: Silent cerebral infarction (SCI) is a neuronal injury without a clinically apparent stroke or transient ischaemic attack. Left atrial cardiomyopathy is closely associated with SCI. P wave changes in the electrocardiogram (ECG) provide significant information about the development of atrial cardiomyopathy. This study evaluated the role of P wave parameters and indices and a novel ECG parameter in predicting SCI, future cerebrovascular events, and atrial fibrillation/flutter. Materials and methods: A total of 272 patients were retrospectively screened and divided into two groups according to SCI. Cerebrovascular events and atrial fibrillation/flutter were defined as the study's outcomes. P wave parameters, indices, and a novel ECG parameter called the P wave ratio (PWR) were calculated from ECGs, and the relationship between SCI and outcomes was investigated. Results: The maximum P wave duration (PWD), P wave dispersion (PWdisp), PWD measured from the D2 lead (PWDD2), P wave peak time measured from the D2 lead (PWPTD2), PWPT measured from the V1 lead (PWPTV1), and P wave terminal force (PWTFV1) were significantly longer in the SCI group. Both partial and advanced inter atrial block (IAB) were significantly high in the SCI group. The novel parameter P wave ratio (PWR) was significantly longer in the SCI group (0.55 ± 0.08 vs. 0.46 ± 0.09; p < 0.001). In multivariate regression analysis, PWdisp (OR: 1.101, p < 0.001), PWPTD2 (OR: 1.095, p = 0.017), and PWR (OR: 1.231, p < 0.001) were found to be independent predictors of SCI. Cox regression analysis revealed that the PWR (HR 1.077; 95% CI 1.029–1.128; p = 0.001) was associated with cerebrovascular events and atrial fibrillation/flutter. Conclusion: In our study, we observed that PWR could be a valuable parameter for predicting SCI and future cerebrovascular events.

The prognostic value of HALP score in predicting in-hospital mortality in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention

Karakayali, Muammer; Omar, Timor; Artac, Inanç; Ilis, Dogan; Arslan, Ayca; Altunova, Mehmet; Cagin, Zihni; Karabag, Yavuz; Karakoyun, Suleyman; Rencuzogullari, Ibrahim

Introduction and objective Despite major advances in reperfusion therapies, morbidity and mortality rates associated with cardiovascular disorders remain high, particularly in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Therefore, identifying prognostic variables that can be used to predict morbidity and mortality in STEMI patients is critical for better disease management. The HALP (hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet) score, a novel index indicating nutritional status and systemic inflammation, provides information about prognosis. In this context, this study was carried out to investigate the relationship between HALP score assessed at admission and in-hospital mortality in STEMI patients. Material and methods The population of this retrospective study consisted of 1307 consecutive patients diagnosed with STEMI and who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). The 1090 patients included in the study sample were divided into two groups based on the median HALP score value of 3.59. In-hospital and all-cause mortality rates during the follow-up were obtained from the registry. Results In-hospital mortality rate was significantly higher in patients with a HALP score of less than 3.59 compared to those with a HALP score of more than 3.59 (7.5% and 0.7%, respectively; P < 0.001). Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses revealed that the HALP score is independently associated with in-hospital mortality. The optimal HALP score cutoff value of <3.72 predicted in-hospital mortality with 95.56% sensitivity and 49.19% specificity. Conclusion This study's findings indicate that HALP score may be a significant independent predictor of in-hospital mortality in patients with STEMI treated with pPCI.

The Inhibition Mechanism of Pancreatic DuctalAdenocarcinoma via LXR Receptors: A Multifaceted Approach Integrating Molecular Docking, Molecular Dynamics and Post-MD InterMolecular Contact Analysis

Agar, Soykan; Akkurt, Barbaros; Ulukaya, Engin

Objective: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has an unfavorable outlook due to its aggressive characteristics, delayed diagnosis, and limited effective treatment options for advanced stages of the disease. The significant mortality rate has prompted investigations into additional factors that could aid in managing this type of cancer. Liver X receptors, specifically LXRα and LXRβ, are nuclear receptors that oversee the expression of genes related to cholesterol, glucose, lipid metabolism, and inflammatory responses. LXRs have also emerged as potential targets for addressing PDAC, and recent findings have demonstrated that LXR ligands can impede cell proliferation in various cancer forms, notably pancreatic cancer. This comprehensive computational research study involving oncological in silico mechanism discovery explored inhibitory ligands for Liver X receptors (LXRα and LXRβ), which are believed to have prognostic significance in PDAC. Methods: The study utilized Baicalein, Beta-Sitosterol, Polydatin ligands in molecular docking and dynamics and post-molecular Hydrogen bonding contact analyses dynamics to characterize receptor inhibition. Result: The outcomes suggest that Baicalein exhibits versatile inhibitory effects on both receptors, while Beta-Sitosterol emerges as a highly effective inhibitor of LXRβ. Conclusion: Further in vitro and in vivo investigations will be beneficial and would shed light onto the mechanism to decipher the suppression of PDAC evaluating the potential of Baicalein, Beta-Sitosterol, Polydatin natural ligand compounds.

New thiourea and benzamide derivatives of 2-aminothiazole as multi-target agents against Alzheimer's disease: Design, synthesis, and biological evaluation

Kilic, Burcu; Bardakkaya, Merve; Ilıkcı Sagkan, Rahsan; Aksakal, Fatma; Shakila, Shakila; Dogruer, Deniz S.

In this study, two series of compounds were designed and synthesized, bearing thiourea and benzamide derivatives at position 2 of 4-subtituted-2-aminothiazole, respectively. Then, the inhibition potency of all final compounds for cholinesterase enzymes were evaluated. Among the thiourea derivatives, 3c (IC50 = 0.33 μM) was identified as the most potent and selective butyrylcholinesterase inhibitor. Additionally, benzamide derivative 10e (AChE IC50 = 1.47 and BChE IC50 = 11.40 μM) was found as a dual cholinesterase inhibitor. The type of inhibition for both compounds was determined by kinetic studies and the results showed that the compounds were mixed type inhibitors. Moreover, all title compounds were investigated in terms of their antioxidant (DPHH, ORAC) and metal chelator activities. In addition, the neuroprotective effects of selected compounds (3c, 3e, 6c, 6e and 10e) against H2O2-induced damage in the PC12 cell line were tested. The experimental findings demonstrated that thiourea-derived 6e (40.4 %) and benzamide-derived 10e (37.8 %) have a neuroprotective effect of about half as ferulic acid at 10 μM. Subsequently, the cytotoxicity of selected compounds was examined by the MTT assay, and the compounds were found not to have cytotoxic effect on the PC12 cell line in 24 h. Additionally, compounds 6e and 10e were also found to be more effective in inhibiting the release of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α and NO compared to other selected compounds in this study.

Discovery of Novel Thiophene/Hydrazones: In Vitro and In Silico Studies against Pancreatic Cancer

Coskun, Goknil Pelin; Ozhan, Yagmur; Dobričić, Vladimir; Bošković, Jelena; Reis, Rengin; Sipahi, Hande; Sahin, Zafer; Demirayak, Seref

Cancer is the disease with the highest mortality. Drug studies contribute to promising treatments; however there is an urgent need for selective drug candidates. Pancreatic cancer is difficult to treat and the cancer progresses rapidly. Unfortunately, current treatments are ineffective. In this study, ten new diarylthiophene-2-carbohydrazide derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their pharmacological activity. The 2D and 3D anticancer activity studies suggested the compounds 7a, 7d, and 7f were promising. Among these, 7f (4.86 µM) showed the best 2D inhibitory activity against PaCa-2 cells. Compounds 7a, 7d and 7f were also tested for their cytotoxic effects on healthy cell line but only compound 7d showed selectivity. Compounds 7a, 7d, and 7f showed the best 3D cell line inhibitory effect according to spheroid diameters. The compounds were screened for their COX-2 and 5-LOX inhibitory activity. For COX-2, the best IC50 value was observed for 7c (10.13 µM) and all compounds showed significantly lower inhibition compared to standard. In the 5-LOX inhibition study, compounds 7a (3.78 µM), 7c (2.60 µM), 7e (3.3 µM), and 7f (2.94 µM) demonstrated influential activity compared to standard. Regarding molecular docking studies, binding mode of compounds 7c, 7e, and 7f to the 5-LOX enzyme were non-redox or redox types, but not the iron-binding type. As dual inhibitors of 5-LOX and pancreatic cancer cell line, 7a and 7f were identified as the most promising compounds.

In brain tumors, which are formed by the abnormal growth of cells in brain tissue, early diagnosis, and accurate treatment are crucial. Brain tumor segmentation provides experts with the ability to accurately identify brain tumors and determine their location. Through segmentation, the type, size, and shape of tumors can be determined, enabling the application of appropriate treatment. In this study, the aim was to perform brain tumor segmentation on the Brain Tumor Figshare (BTF) dataset, which includes diverse images in terms of structural complexity, viewing angles, different device usage, noise, and bias field effects, without applying any preprocessing. Basic models such as U-Net and FCN were utilized, along with transfer learning-based approaches using VGG, XceptionNet, InceptionNet, and ResNet architectures as the underlying structures in these models. According to the experimental results, the 16-layer FCN architecture with VGG- 19 as the underlying structure achieved the highest score with a dice score of 0.9169.

İstanbul ve çevresinden elde edilen gıdalardan izole edilen staphylococcus aureus suşlarının çeşitli antibiyotiklere karşı duyarlılıklarının araştırılması

    Issa, Ghassan

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, İstanbul ve çevresinde bulunan çeşitli market, şarküteri ve semt pazarlarından 70 adet peynir, 70 adet yufka ve 10 adet çiğ süt olmak üzere toplam 150 adet gıda örneği toplanarak Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) yönünden incelenmesi ve devamında izole edilen S. aureus suşlarının antibiyotik duyarlılıklarının araştırılması amaçlandı. Yöntem: Laboratuvara getirilen gıda örneklerinden, kültür yöntemleri kullanılarak S. aureus suşları izole edildi. S. aureus olarak tanımlanan suşların disk diffüzyon yöntemiyle her biri için 21 farklı antibiyotik diski kullanarak duyarlılıkları belirlendi. Bulgular: Çalışmada analiz edilen 150 gıda örneğinden 10 (% 6,66) adedi peynirden, 7 (% 4,66) adedi yufkadan ve 2 (% 1,33) adedi çiğ sütten olmak üzere 19 (%12,66) S. aureus suşu izole edildi. İzole edilen 19 S. aureus suşundan 3 (% 15,78) tanesinin birçok antibiyotiğe karşı (Metisilin, Penisilin, Oksasilin, Ampisilin, Ampisilin Sulbaktam) dirençli olduğu belirlendi. Sonuç: Antibiyotik dirençli S. aureus suşları direkt temas yoluyla bulaşabileceği gibi hayvansal kökenli gıdaların tüketimi yoluyla da bulaşabilmektedir. Ülkemizde gerek tıp ve gerek veteriner hekimlik alanında antimikrobiyal direnç sorunu üzerinde entegre sürveyans sistemleri oluşturulmalı ve antimikrobiyal direnç olgusunun kontrolü için gerekli stratejiler geliştirilip uygulamaya konmalıdır.
