Yesilbas, Burcu Bicer; Simsek Yaban, Zuleyha
This study aimed to investigate the levels of depression, anxiety, and hopelessness in patients following lung resection surgery, as well as the interrelationships among these variables. A descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 177 patients who underwent lung resection between November 2019 and May 2022. Data were collected using a Sociodemographic Information Form, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, the Beck Depression Scale (BDS), and the State-Trait Anxiety Scale (STAI), all administered postoperatively. Descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations, frequencies), independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with post-hoc tests (Bonferroni or Tamhane’s T2), and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using SPSS version 23. Levene’s test was used to assess the homogeneity of variances. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The average age of the participants was found 57.75 ± 6.65 and 61.6% of the patients were male and malignancy rate was 74.5%. According to the data, all patients experienced some level of hopelessness, with 33.3% of the participants experiencing minimal, 23.7% mild, 28.2% moderate and 14.7% severe hopelessness. Depression was also experienced by all participants. Specifically, 1.7% had mild depression, 11.9% had moderate depression, and 86.4% had severe depression. The mean state anxiety score was 50.73 ± 6.02, and the mean trait anxiety score was 50.82 ± 3.91. A positive and statistically significant correlation was found between the Beck Depression Scale and the State Anxiety scores (p < 0.05). The psychological condition of patients following lung resection is too significant to be overlooked. Therefore, it is essential to support patients undergoing thoracic surgery throughout the perioperative period using a holistic approach providing specialist psychological support when necessary. Routine screening for mental health symptoms and early psychosocial interventions such as therapeutic communication, psychiatric consultation, and nursing (consultation-liaison) support should be integrated into perioperative care.

Cerci Akcay, Hulya; Safci, Duygu; Kasimoglu, Yelda; Aren, Gamze; Guloğlu, Recep; Coskun, Murat; Tanir, Yaşar; Oren, Meryem Merve; Erdem, Arzu Pinar
Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted daily routines and lifestyle habits, affecting the psychological well-being and dietary habits of individuals, especially children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study aims to evaluate the susceptibility of children with ASD to changes in nutritional habits, lifestyle, and dental trauma during the pandemic related with oral health and compare them with healthy children. Methods: This study, conducted at Istanbul University, involves children aged 3–14 diagnosed with ASD at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and healthy children who visited the Department of Pedodontics. Parents provide written informed consent, and a questionnaire covering various aspects of their child’s health and habits is used. Intraoral examinations are conducted for both groups, recording any trauma history or signs, and evaluating possible causes and risk factors. All data were obtained and analysed by SPSS software program version 23.0 with descriptive statistics calculation, Chi square test, Kolmogorov Smirnov, the Mann-Whitney U test, t test and McNemar test was used with p value fixed at 0.05. Results: The results show significant differences between children with ASD and the control group in terms of dental health. Children with ASD had lower dmft and DMFT indices, indicating better dental health (p = 0.005). However, the frequency of dental trauma was similar between the groups (p = 0.685). Additionally, the control group exhibited more significant changes in dietary habits during the pandemic, with a higher tendency for snacking throughout the day (p = 0.027). During lockdowns, parents of children with ASD were statistically more likely to provide junk food when their child was irritable (p < 0.001). Changes in physical activity levels also differed, with a more pronounced decrease in the control group (p < 0.001). Furthermore, children with ASD experienced a statistically significant higher rate of disruption in daily routines and inability to participate in social activities and courses (p < 0,001). Conclusion: This study sheds light on the unique challenges faced by children with ASD, particularly in terms of dental health and related behaviors. It underscores the importance of interventions to ensure optimal oral health outcomes for this population, especially during periods of disruption like the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cosar, Banu; Nefesoglu, Mustafa Sehvar; Altinoz, Meric A.; Akgun, Emel; Sahin, Betul; Baykal, Ahmet; Serteser, Mustafa
Background: Previous proteomic studies provided valuable information about cataracts, but unclarified issues, such as sex and ethnicity-associated differences, remain. This study aimed to provide additional data on cataract-related proteins regarding age, sex, and cataract type. Methods: Twenty-six female and seven male Turkish cataract patients were screened for visual acuity and dysfunctional lens index. A nano-LC-MS/MS system and Progenesis QI software v3.0 were used for protein identification and quantification. The remaining data were evaluated with SPSS Version 29.0 software. Results: Proteins that showed age-associated changes were mainly involved in cytoskeletal organization. A glyoxalase enzyme, caveolin 1, and HS90B were lower, and RAB8B and ATP6V1B1 were higher in lenses in women. Proteins with lower levels in cataractous lenses than in transparent lenses included filensin and phakinin, concurrent with previous publications, and LCTL, GDI, HSPB1, and EIF4A2, not reported before. Corticonuclear cataracts constituted the only group showing depletions in putatively protective proteins, while the cortical type was the least influenced. ANXA1 and DNHD1 positively, and TCPD, SEC14L2, and PRPS1 proteins negatively correlated with visual acuity. Conclusions: This study revealed cataract-related proteins concurrent with earlier studies and new ones hitherto unreported. Despite the low number of patients investigated, the results merit further research, as these new proteins are highly likely to be involved in cataractogenesis.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1The relationship between clinical outcomes of untreated dental caries with dental anxiety, health perceptions and Child-OIDP in primary school-aged children
Akcay, Hulya Cerci; Sahin, Merve; Peker, Kadriye; Erdem, Arzu Pınar
Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the clinical consequences of untreated dental caries and children’s sociodemographic characteristics, behavioral factors, perception of general/oral health, dental anxiety, and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and to identify the predictors of childrens’ OHRQoL. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in a convenience sample consisted of 200 children aged 8–10 years attending a pediatric dentistry clinic. Data were collected through clinical examinations and self-reported questionnaires. Caries severity was assessed using the dmf(t)/DMF(T) and pufa(t)/PUFA(T) indices. The questionnaire encompassed socio-demographic characteristics, the Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale, oral health behaviours, self rated oral/general health, treatment need and satistaction with teeth, the Child-Oral Impacts on Daily Performances index. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate statistics were performed for data analyses. Results: The sample consisted of 98 girls and 102 boys (mean age 9.1 ± 0.81 years). D component of DMFT was correlated with the dental anxiety (p < 0.05), but the PUFA/pufa and DMFT/dmft scores were not correlated. No significant differences were found in the OHRQoL and all domains regarding gender, age, school type and oral health behaviours. The OHRQoL was associated with dental anxiety, self perceived oral/general health, the number of self- reported oral problems, and satisfaction with teeth. Worse oral health self- rating and dissatisfaction with the appearance of teeth were important predictors of worse OHRQoL. Conclusion: Anxiety and children’s subjective evaluation of oral health affect children’s OHRQoL. As a part of needs assesment, dentists should consider these factors together with clinical parameters when planning treatment.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1An overlooked connection: oral health status in patients with chronic diseases
Öçbe, Melisa; Çelebi, Elif; Öçbe, Çetin Batuhan
Background: Oral and systemic health are closely linked. Chronic diseases like diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and hypertension increase the risk of dental caries, periodontal disease and tooth loss. Moreover, poor oral health can worsen the status of systemic diseases. Despite this, oral health is often overlooked in chronic disease management. This study aimed to evaluate the oral health status of patients with chronic diseases (PWCD) compared to healthy controls using DIMF-T and DMF-S indices. Methods: This retrospective study included 205 participants (106 PWCD and 99 healthy controls) attending the Oral Diagnosis & Radiology outpatient clinic at Bahçeşehir University Dental Hospital. Comprehensive intraoral and radiological examinations assessed caries lesions, missing teeth, filled teeth, periodontal disease, denture usage, and the prevalence of apical osteitis, soft tissue lesions, and intraosseous lesions. Oral health status was quantified using DIMF-T and DMF-S indices. Statistical analyses were conducted to identify differences between groups. Results: The study group (PWCD) exhibited significantly higher median values for missing teeth (MT), decayed surfaces (DS), missing surfaces (MS), DIMF-T, and DMF-S indices compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Chronic periodontitis was more prevalent in PWCD (76.42%) than in controls (45.45%), while gingivitis was more common in the control group (52.53%, p < 0.001). Medication use for systemic diseases was strongly associated with poor oral health outcomes (p < 0.001). However, no significant differences were observed between the groups for decayed teeth (DT), hopeless teeth (IT), or filled teeth (FT). Conclusions: PWCD demonstrated worse oral health outcomes compared to healthy controls, highlighting the need for integrated oral and systemic healthcare strategies. Dental professionals should be careful in identifying oral conditions that may signal underlying systemic diseases. Future research should explore the integration of oral health evaluations into routine medical screenings and examine the global practices of oral health management in PWCD.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Adaptation of the incivility in nursing education-revised survey: a validity and reliability study
Konuk, Tuğba Gözütok; Kural, Şerife Kurşun; Dikmenc, Yurdanur
Background: Academic incivility is one of the most significant issues that disrupt the learning process for nursing students and adversely affects the quality of nursing care. Therefore, it is crucial to assess incivility within the nursing academic environment using valid and reliable measurement tools. The aim of this study is to translate and adapt the Incivility in Nursing Education-Revised (INE-R) Survey into Turkish and assess its validity and reliability for nursing students and faculty. Methods: The cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the INE-R were carried out within the framework of a methodological cross-sectional study. The Turkish validity and reliability of the INE-R survey, which assesses the behaviors of faculty incivility, were examined with 522 nursing students from 11 different universities, including students from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th year. Data were collected from April 20, 2021 to October 30, 2021. Results: Following the cross-cultural adaptation, the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed that the Turkish version of the INE-R, with 24 items and a two-factor structure, showed a good fit. The reliability analysis revealed Cronbach’s alpha of 0.952 for the total score, 0.899 for the low-level incivility subscale, and 0.991 for the high-level incivility subscale. Item analysis indicated that all items had item-total correlation values above 0.30, with none removed. Additionally, removing any item did not improve the scale’s Cronbach’s alpha. The test-retest results showed no statistically significant differences. Conclusion: The Turkish adaptation of the INE-R demonstrates its validity and reliability as a valuable instrument for assessing the perceptions of Turkish nursing students regarding uncivil faculty behaviors, as well as the frequency of their exposure to such behaviors. Impact statement: INE-R survey has demonstrated psychometric reliability and validity, making it a valuable tool for assessing incivility within nursing academia.

- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Acute and Chronic Immunological Responses to Different Exercise Modalities: A Narrative Review
Sever, Ebru; Yılmaz, Sıla; Koz, Mitat
The relationship between exercise and immune function has been widely studied, yet findings remain inconsistent regarding how different exercise modalities and intensities influence acute and chronic immunological responses. Previous reviews have often focused on single exercise types or limited outcomes, leaving a gap for an integrated synthesis. This narrative review aims to address this gap by summarizing and comparing immunological effects across aerobic exercise, resistance training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), blood flow restriction (BFR), isometric exercise, mind–body interventions, and hypoxic training. A structured narrative approach was adopted. Literature published between January 2000 and December 2024 was searched in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Experimental and observational studies on humans and animal models were included, with study selection and data extraction performed by two reviewers. Findings were synthesized thematically by exercise modality to capture both acute and chronic immune responses. Twenty-four eligible studies were identified. Aerobic and mind–body exercises consistently demonstrated anti-inflammatory and immunoprotective effects, including increased IL-10 production, improved T cell profiles, and reduced inflammatory markers. Isometric training showed favorable modulation of cytokines and T cell balance, while resistance training evidence was limited but suggested cortisol-lowering benefits. HIIT, BFR, and hypoxic exercise produced mixed results, often combining transient pro-inflammatory responses with immunological benefits. Acute and chronic immunological responses to exercise are highly modality- and intensity-dependent. Aerobic and mind–body interventions provide the most consistent benefits, whereas HIIT, BFR, and hypoxic training show variable effects. Further high-quality trials are needed to clarify mechanisms and guide exercise-based immune recommendations.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ3De novo Drug Design and Repurposing to Suppress Liver Cancer via VEGF-R1 Mechanism: Comprehensive Molecular Docking, Molecular Dynamics Simulations and ADME Estimation
Agar, Soykan
Aim: The aim is to halt the progression of liver cancer (Hepatocellular carcinoma) by suppressing the VEGF-R1 receptor using Myricetin and its de novo-designed analogues. Background: VEGF/VEGFR autocrine signalling promotes the growth, progression, and metastasis of Hepatocellular carcinoma, making the development of molecularly targeted therapies highly feasible. Invasive and metastatic behaviours in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), are closely monitored through the use of VEGF signalling pathway inhibitors. Specifically in HCC, VEGFR-1 facilitates the invasive capabilities of cancer cells primarily by triggering the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process. VEGFR-1 significantly influences the activity of proteolytic enzymes that are critical for the invasive behaviour of HCC cells. Notably, a novel mechanism has been discovered where VEGFR-1 activation leads to the upregulation of MMP-9, thereby enhancing the invasiveness of HCC cells. The scientists, in their study, have elaborated on the various antiangiogenic agents developed for the treatment of HCC. They have highlighted clinical trials that explore the efficacy of these treatments, which include the application of monoclonal antibodies and small-molecule kinase inhibitors designed to target specific pathways involved in tumour angiogenesis and growth. Objective: Creating a pharmaceutical chemistry table regarding “Structure-Activity Relationship of New Compounds on anticancer”. To do so, Myricetin and its de novo designed structured variants were used in molecular docking, molecular dynamics, cluster analyses, and 1H NMR estimation to specifically understand and enhance the mechanism of suppressing the VEGF-R1 receptor. Methods: Proper ligands (Myricetin and its analogues) and receptor (VEGF-R1) preparations, and optimizations were done using the density functional theory (DFT)/B3LYP function along with the 6-31G(d,p) basis set principle in the latest software programs such as Gaussian 09, Gauss View 6.0 and Avogadro. Then using PyRx and Autodock Vina 1.1.2., many molecular docking trials were achieved with 100 posed simulations in each run. An extensive cluster analysis was performed to identify the most optimal docking poses with the highest accumulation and most favourable binding interactions, ensuring the accuracy of the study. The docking configurations that exhibited the most precise and accurate poses with lowest inhibition constants were chosen as initial structured data for subsequent Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations for each drug candidate. To verify the molecular docking results, MD runs were achieved in our supercomputers and the trajectory analyses were made. The data confirmed what was found in molecular docking results, verifying the high efficiency of the druggable molecules’ inhibition towards VEGF-R1. Results: Amine-derivatized Myricetin has a significantly high docking score (-10.56 kcal/mol) and great inhibition constant compared to pristine Myricetin (-4.77 kcal/mol) itself while Fluorine-derivatized Myricetin (-6.45 kcal/mol) has an affinity towards VEGF-R1 between the first two molecules. Thus, the structure-activity relationship concerning pharmaceutical chemistry aspects of all the molecules studied, yielded us a great insight into what Myricetin’s organic structure possesses towards inhibiting the progression of Liver Cancer. Also, ADME studies showed that both Amine and Fluorined-derivatized Myricetin molecules are good drug candidates. Conclusion: This study highlighted the significant potential of Myricetin as an anti-cancer drug when modified with specific functional groups. Through comprehensive in silico computational analyses, our research group enhanced Myricetin's inhibitory capabilities by derivatizing its Hydroxyl group with Amine and Fluorine, resulting in improved docking scores and inhibition constants. The findings from molecular docking and MD simulations provide a promising foundation for future in vitro and in vivo investigations of these molecules as potential drugs in cancer research.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Examining the hesitations of pregnant women towards COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic: A mixed methods approach
Aksoy, Sena Dilek; Yalçın, Suna Uysal; Odabaş, Resmiye Kaya
Background: Various reasons stemming from direct vaccine concerns, individual factors, and sociocultural and environmental factors contribute to vaccine hesitancy among pregnant women regarding COVID-19 vaccines. Aims: The study described and compare pregnant women's perspectives on COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic and to identify barriers and facilitators. Findings: A mixed-methods research design was adopted to integrate quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. At a state hospital in the western region of Turkey, 249 pregnant women attending the maternity clinic from March to August 2022 were surveyed using questionnaires, and in-depth individual interviews were conducted with 17 of them. The interview topics were based on the participants’ perceptions and attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines. A mixed-methods research design was adopted, using quantitative purposive sampling to describe and compare their COVID-19 vaccination status and qualitative purposive sampling to identify their hesitations regarding COVID-19 vaccines, analyzed through content analysis. Reporting followed the GRAMMS guidelines. Discussion: Sixty-six percent of pregnant women had not received the COVID-19 vaccine. Those with advanced age, lower education levels, and lower income exhibited higher levels of vaccine hesitancy. The hesitations of pregnant women toward COVID-19 vaccines revealed three main themes: direct vaccine-related hesitation, hesitation arising from individual factors, and hesitation stemming from socio-cultural and environmental factors. Conclusion: Vaccine hesitancy, which emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, was a significant cause for concern. This hesitancy was explained by three main themes: vaccine hesitancy arising from the vaccine itself, vaccine hesitancy due to individual factors, and vaccine hesitancy stemming from socio-cultural and environmental factors. Additionally, sub-themes such as perceptions related to the management of the vaccination program, personal and infant-related risk-benefit assessments, the influence of anti-vaccine activists on social media, and political factors were also identified as playing a significant role in vaccine hesitancy.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Comparison of the effectiveness and safety of vaginal and sublingual low-dose misoprostol versus vaginal dinoprostone for labor ınduction: A retrospective cohort study
Eminov, Elmin; Eminov, Ayşe
Background Labor induction is one of the most common obstetric interventions, yet the optimal pharmacological agent and route of administration remain subjects of ongoing debate. Prostaglandin analogs such as misoprostol and dinoprostone are widely used for cervical ripening and induction; however, evidence comparing their effectiveness and safety across different routes is still limited. Aim The primary purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of vaginal and sublingual misoprostol and vaginal dinoprostone pessary in labor induction. Materials and Methods Patients were divided into three groups based on the labor induction methods used. The first group included patients who received 25 µg vaginal misoprostol for labor induction, the second group included patients who received 25 µg sublingual misoprostol, and the third group included patients who received vaginal dinoprostone pessary. The primary outcome of the study was to evaluate vaginal delivery rates and time from induction to delivery of the fetus. The secondary outcomes of the study were to evaluate cesarean delivery rates, indications for cesarean delivery, first- and fifth-minute Apgar scores, birth weight, gender, amniotic fluid meconium contamination, and admission rates to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The study data were collected from the hospital’s automation system and archives. All patients’ demographic and obstetric characteristics and maternal and fetal outcomes were recorded in a spreadsheet document (Microsoft Excel™), and statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS 28.0 program. Results Vaginal delivery rates were higher in the group where vaginal (86,5%) and sublingual misoprostol (85,3%) were applied, and cesarean delivery rates were higher in the group where vaginal dinoprostone pessary (31,6%) was applied (p=0.000). When the groups were compared according to the duration of labor, no difference was found in the vaginal (523.86±405,92) and sublingual misoprostol (560.15±438,00) groups, while the duration of labor was significantly higher in the dinoprostone pessary group (857.37±558,36) (p=0.000). Hyperstimulation (6.8%) (p=0.007) and admission rates to the neonatal intensive care unit (9.1%) (p=0.004) were higher in the dinoprostone group, and this difference was statistically significant. Conclusion According to the results of the study, low-dose vaginal or sublingual misoprostol was found to be more effective and safer than vaginal dinoprostone pessary in labor induction.

Objective: Nasal septal perforation (NSP) is characterized by defects in the mucosal, cartilaginous, and bony structures of the septum, most commonly resulting from septoplasty. Spontaneous healing of NSPs is rare, necessitating surgical intervention once the condition stabilizes. Numerous techniques have been developed for NSP repair. This study presents a novel technique combining fascia lata grafts, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and diced septal cartilage harvested from the patient’s remaining deviated nasal septum for the repair of medium-sized NSPs. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 32 patients who underwent NSP repair between July 2022 and July 2023. The repair utilized fascia lata, PRP derived from venous blood, and diced cartilage from residual septal cartilage. The procedure involved an open rhinoplasty approach for graft placement, followed by stabilization using endoscopic techniques. Results: The mean horizontal and vertical diameters of the septal perforations were 12.06 ± 2.87 mm and 13.12 ± 2.44 mm, respectively. All patients had medium-sized perforations (0.5-2 cm). The mean follow-up period was 12.03 ± 1.11 months. Complete closure was achieved in 28 of 32 cases (87.5%). The cohort included 18 males (56.3%) and 14 females (43.8%), with a mean age of 35.47 ± 5.31 years (range: 25-45). Ten patients (31.3%) were smokers, among whom 4 experienced incomplete closure. Smoking was not significantly associated with repair failure (P = .06). Conclusion: This novel technique combining fascia lata, PRP, and diced septal cartilage offers a reliable and effective approach for the repair of medium-sized NSPs. © The Author(s) 2025. Kuculmez, Ozlem; Usen, Ahmet; Ahi, Emine Dündar
This study compared language models’ responses to open-ended questions on regenerative therapy guidelines for chronic pain, assessing their accuracy, reliability, usefulness, readability, semantic similarity, and hallucination rates. This cross-sectional study used 16 open-ended questions based on the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience’s regenerative therapy guidelines for chronic pain. Questions were answered by ChatGPT-4o, Gemini 2.5 Flash, and Claude 4 Opus. Responses were rated on a 7-point Likert scale for usability and reliability, and a 5-point scale for accuracy. Hallucinogenicity, readability (FKRE, FKGL), and similarity (USE, ROUGE-L) were also assessed. Statistical comparisons were made, with significance set at p < 0.05. Claude Opus 4 showed the highest reliability (5.19 ± 1.11), usefulness (5.06 ± 1.0), and clinical accuracy (4.06 ± 0.68), outperforming ChatGPT-4o (4.13 ± 0.96; 3.94 ± 0.85; 3.38 ± 0.72) and Gemini 2.5 (4.19 ± 0.98; 4.06 ± 0.93; 3.38 ± 0.62). Claude had the lowest reference hallucinations (RHS 4.44 ± 3.18) vs. ChatGPT-4o (8.38 ± 1.86) and Gemini 2.5 (8.75 ± 1.73). In semantic similarity, Claude (0.68 ± 0.08) and Gemini (0.65 ± 0.07) surpassed ChatGPT-4o (0.60 ± 0.09). Gemini led in ROUGE-L F1 (0.12 ± 0.03) vs. Claude (0.10 ± 0.02) and ChatGPT-4o (0.07 ± 0.03). Readability was similar, though Gemini had a higher FKGL (11.3 ± 1.06) than Claude (10.3 ± 2.09). Claude Opus 4 showed superior accuracy, reliability, and usefulness, with significantly fewer hallucinations. Readability scores were similar across models. Further research is recommended.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2025ABCLOVE Rehabilitation for Vocal Nodules
Altun, Hüseyin
The vocal cords can develop noncancerous nodules, which can cause various symptoms, such as hoarseness, changes in voice quality, pain (such as a sharp ache in the neck or jaw), and so on. A vocal nodule is a prevalent symptom in children, affecting 38–78% of children with hoarseness and 3–26% with vocal problems overall. The long-term effects of voice abuse or misuse are the most common cause of vocal nodules in children. These vocal habits can harm the vocal cords and even cause benign tumors to develop because of the friction that occurs between the vocal folds. Kids with vocal nodules have a worse quality of life, and their physical health takes a hit. Anxiety and despair are common in children who have voice nodules. Vocal nodule removal surgery and medicinal treatment are two therapeutic alternatives for treating vocal nodules. Operating on youngsters is more complex than on adults. Budesonide inhalation is one medicinal treatment that has been shown to alleviate inflammation and pain associated with vocal nodules. Nevertheless, adverse effects, particularly on children’s growth, may occur with long-term inhalation therapy of Budesonide. On the other hand, voice therapy’s efficacy in treating vocal nodules in children has made it a hot topic in recent years.

Objectives: The aim was to investigate the effects of cinnamon on the kidney tissue serum endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress marker, reticulone (RTN)1A, receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) and the lipid peroxidation indicator, malondialdehyde (MDA) in an experimental diabetes mellitus (DM) rat model. Methods: Twenty-eight male Wistar Albino rats (six months old and weighing 350–400 g) were divided equally into four groups: 1) Control group-citrate buffer (0.2 M, pH 4.4; ip); 2) Cinnamon group-cinnamon (600 mg/kg/day, orogas-tric tube); 3) DM group-STZ (35 mg/kg, ip); and 4) DM + cinnamon group; Cinnamon and STZ were given at the same doses and route as in Groups 2 and 3, respectively. At the end of the 12-week experiment period, serum, urine and kidney tissue samples were taken from all groups. Serum RTN 1A, RAGE, MDA, urea, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine levels andkidney tissue RTN 1A, RAGE and MDA levels were measured. Results: Our biochemical results showed that there was a statistically significant decrease in RAGE and MDA levels in the DM + cinnamon group compared to the DM group (p<0.05). In addition, the decrease in serum urea, BUN, and creatinine levels in the DM + cinnamon group was also remarkable (p<0.05). Althought histologically no widespread necrosis was observed, cortical interstitial vascular dilatation was observed in DM+cinnamon group. Conclusion: Cinnamon was effective in reducing markers of oxidative stress and ER stress including RAGE and MDA, in kidney tissue in an animal model of diabetic nephropathy.
